Bug Transport
Miniature figures were what I turned to when embarking on a project to explore my child-like mind. For reasons unknown, I have always kept a toy dinosaur in my possession from being a child onwards to today. He moves around the house, currently he resides in a pocket of my weekender bag. And I should add, I have yet to photograph him. I guess it’s a porthole back in time to my youth. That dinosaur was reminder of sorts to not be so serious all the time, and be more child-like in my imagination.
This project is about the same thing. It’s about adding a bit of fantasy into my reality. It’s about lightening my load. It’s about being playful, and happy. And not being so serious all the time.
Small Encounters are still-time moments with toys that take place within dioramas or real world settings. Some take on social issues we are dealing with in this world such as poaching, black lives matter, same sex love, and religion. The others are fun, quirky images with no real underlying message at all.
I think these pictures allow us to examine our lives literally, and figuratively close up in detail without fear of the truth.
What if bugs were the size of livestock, and we road them around for transportation?
